In this breakout you will learn the periodic sequencing technique method for linking training and competing that sequences physical and mental training that blends together for peak performances. The step by step approach begins with relaxation exercises, progresses through mind & body skill acquisition, and integrates to event rehearsals. Attendees will learn Coach Spino’s method as taught in his True Champion online sport training courses.
Self-talk is a big part of athletic performance, training, and competition. Often the self-talk we use is not conscious. Research has shown that the “voices” and language we use can influence our state of mind. Clearly, our state of mind impacts performance.
In this experiential workshop, we will identify our “voices” and try out some different ones, realizing we can consciously use voices that work best for us in training and competition.

Summary: By exploring what philosophers have called “the good, the true and the beautiful” in the context of his 50+ years in the sport of distance running, Drew Mearns, a master coach, teacher, and former sports agent, will reflect on “growing runners” – words that describe both his passion & profession and also the young champions in his programs. in this breakout session, you will: (1) hear stories and lessons that Coach Mearns learned during his career as agent and attorney for Olympic and world record setting athletes and while coaching serious runners; (2) learn how to incorporate certain proven sport-training principles into your own programs; and (3) take home with you from the session three very specific and practical transformational "tools" that coaches, parents, and athletes can put to work in your own practice or your parenting/coaching, to improve and enhance sport performance, enjoyment and learning. Sport coaches will learn specific, practical and time-tested methodologies to effectively assist their athletes with dependably achieving a relaxed body, calm mind energized state which enables them to consistently perform their best. Just this spring, 2017 Spino and Warburton began a collaboration involving integrating their respective mental-training approaches. The result was/is an integration of body-based energy (from Energy Psychology including Emotional Freedom Techniques tapping) and relaxation practices, with cognitive mental training including body image, sport skill application, self-honest self-observation (now popularly called mindfulness) and event rehearsal and visualization.
The workshop will include recent case studies that graphically illustrate the value of adding a mind/body coaching component that includes specific practices. If time allows, we will also offer a live demonstration during our time together.

Self-talk, the ‘voices’ we use and self-hypnosis are powerful tools that allow us to drop into full awareness and focus.
In this experiential workshop, we will introduce the understanding that using self-talk and self-hypnosis is a conscious choice. We will then offer various voices and self-hypnosis practices that can be easily used. The quality of Mind we put into our Selves is critical to how well we train and perform.
